Jody Leonardo, MD

Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery
University at Buffalo Neurosurgery
State University of New York

Dr. Jody Leonardo joined the faculty of the University at Buffalo Neurosurgery as Assistant Professor after completing a minimally invasive endoscopic intracranial fellowship in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Leonardo graduated summa cum laude from Duquesne University. During her general surgery intern year at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, she received the Golden Apple Award for resident excellence in medical student teaching, the Bronze Torch Award, and the WOW award for excellence in patient care. Dr. Leonardo completed her neurosurgical residency training at the University of Buffalo where she was granted the University of Buffalo Resident Award. She has published and presented her work on the efficacy of antimicrobial sutures, and has secured grants for her research in tethered spinal cords. Her interest in neuroendoscopy drove her to organize the First Annual Neuroendoscopy Course of Western New York and to pursue specialized training overseas.

Currently, Dr. Leonardo specializes in performing minimally invasive endoscopic surgery on intracranial pathology, specifically pituitary and intraventricular tumor resections, and hydrocephalus. By introducing the endoscope through small incisions, diagnosis as well as treatment of these lesions can be performed safely and effectively while decreasing patient discomfort.

Dr. Leonardo sees patients primarily at Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital, the new UBNS office in Amherst, and at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo.
